About

My name is Simon Blackshaw, and I am a passionate bagpipe player, performer, and composer hailing from the beautiful city of Melbourne, Australia.

My journey with the bagpipes began at the tender age of 10, when I was first introduced to this unique and mesmerising instrument by my father. From the very first note, I was captivated by the haunting sound of the bagpipes, and I knew that this was something I wanted to pursue for the rest of my life.

As I continued to hone my skills and develop my craft, I found myself drawn to the art of composing. At the young age of 15, I wrote my very first bagpipe tune, and I was instantly hooked. I found inspiration in the works of renowned composers such as Mark Saul, Gordon Duncan, and Michael Grey, and I constantly strive to push the boundaries and create original and innovative music.

Over the years, I have had the opportunity to perform at various events and venues, both locally and internationally. Each performance is a chance for me to share my love for the bagpipes with the world and to connect with audiences through the power of music.

As my passion for the bagpipes grew, so did my collection of music. I have acquired a wide range of music over the years, each with its own unique characteristic. But amidst all the external factors that life brings me, I never forgot my roots as a composer. Recently, I have turned my focus back to writing tunes and have even started publishing my own compositions.

My compositions are a reflection of my experiences, emotions, and inspirations. They are a blend of traditional and contemporary elements, showcasing the versatility and beauty of the bagpipes. I am constantly learning and evolving as a composer, and I am excited to see where this journey takes me.

I believe that music has the power to bring people together, and I am grateful for the opportunity to pass on the rich traditions of bagpipe music to future generations.

I am a bagpipe player, performer, and composer with a deep passion for this instrument and its music. I am constantly striving to push the boundaries and share my love for the bagpipes with the world. Thank you for taking the time to get to know me, and I hope you enjoy my music!
